Keep reading over the summer!

We had our last Book of the Month Club Book Talk today.  Four students posted comments about 'The Wednesday Wars' by Gary Schmidt.  We have had fun each month this year reading new books, discussing them, and posting comments on this blog.  I encourage all of my steady readers, and anyone who wants to join us, to read lots over the summer too.  Next year we'll be back with a whole new batch of Book of the Month Club books!  Feel free to give me suggestions of books to use...

"Wednesday Wars" is May Book of the Month

The book of the month for May is "Wednesday Wars" by Gary Schmidt.  This is a fast paced, funny story about a boy in 7th grade.  Read away Monforton students, and we'll review at the end of the month.

April Book is The Sloppy Copy Slipup

April's Book of the Month is The Sloppy Copy Slipup by Dyanne DiSalvo.  This is a fun school story about a boy who has trouble writing stories...  Mrs. Collins has already read this to the 4th grade class, so watch for lots of reviews at the end of the month!  

March book is 'Swindle'

Hello Readers!  The March book of the Month Club book is Swindle by Gordon Korman.  Swindle is a story about a boy who gets swindled out of a million dollar baseball card, so he makes a plan to set things right - only things don't always go as planned.  I'm a big fan of author Gordon Korman.  He writes a huge range of genres for children, from adventure to humor, and anything in between. You'll like Swindle with its twists and turns and satisfying ending.  Check it out at the school or public library.

February Book is "The Higher Power of Lucky"

Hi Readers!  Our February Book of the Month Club Book is "The Higher Power of Lucky" by Susan Patron.  This story won the Newberry Medal, which is the highest award a kids book can get. It is about a girl who lives in the middle of the desert, and is trying to find out why things are.  Watch for our comment posts at the end of the month - those are the student reviews!

January book is "Book of a Thousand Days"

January's Book of the Month Club book is "Book of a Thousand Days" by Shannon Hale.  This is a wonderful fantasy about a girl who is stronger than she thinks she is.  I loved this book when I first read it last year, and knew I had to use it for Book of the Month Club.  Kendall from 5th grade has helped me make our advertising posters around the school.  Pick the story up in the library, and read it by the end of the month so you can join us for our book talk  Happy Reading!

December Book is "I, Freddy"

Our December book of the Month Club book is "I, Freddy" by Deitlof Reich. Watch for student reviews as comments!
